BMC revises third quarter expectations upward
NEW YORK, Jan 3 (Reuters) - BMC Software Inc. (NasdaqNM:BMCS - news), the enterprise software maker that warned two quarters in a row it would not meet expectations, on Wednesday said fiscal third-quarter earnings would be higher than it previously estimated.
For the quarter ended Dec. 31, Houston-based BMC said it expects earnings in the range of 20 cents to 22 cents a share, which excludes special charges and amortization of goodwill and intangible assets, but includes a 2-cent-a-share one-time gain.
In a statement, the company did not provide additional information regarding the items. Analysts had expected the company to earn 16 cents a share, according to research firm First Call/Thomson Financial.
The company also said it expects third-quarter fiscal year 2001 revenues between $375 million and $380 million.
BMC is expected to release third-quarter results after the close of the market Jan. 18.
Shares of BMC Wednesday closed up $2 to $15-5/8, or 14.7 percent, on a day the Nasdaq Composite Index posted nearly the same percentage gain. The earnings projections were released after the market closed.
