Next Level Communications [NXTV] after Thursday’s close said it expects a fourth-quarter loss of $0.22 a share. Analysts polled by First Call expected a loss of $0.12. Next Level shares fell as much as 38% in
after-hours trading.

Starbucks [SBUX] late Thursday said its same-store sales for December rose 8% and total revenue grew 24% from the year-ago period.

After Thursday’s close, Keynote Systems [KEYN] warned of a revenue shortfall in the first quarter, but said it will meet the consensus estimate.

eToys [ETYS] late Thursday said it would lay off 700 of its 1,000 workers after a dismal Christmas season that diminished its hopes for profitability any time soon. Shares of eToys fell 21% in after-hours trading.

Shares of Sapient [SAPE] fell 20% in Thursday’s after-hours session following the company’s announcement its unaudited fourth-quarter earnings per share would fall short of the Wall Street consensus forecast.

After Thursday’s close, Delano Technology [DTEC] said it expects a third-quarter loss of $0.33 to $0.35 a share, compared with analysts’ expectations of a loss of $0.22 to $0.28. The Toronto-based company plans on asking for a dual listing on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

Shares of U.S. Physical Therapy [USPH] are expected to split 2-for-1 basedon Friday’s closing price.
