Market Preview For Next Week
=========================================================
Winter earnings season kicks off next week with Alcoa [AA] reporting on Monday. The aluminum giant is expected to report a fourth-quarter profit of $0.42 a share, compared with $0.44 during the same period last year. A slowing economy and higher energy costs are expected to impact Alcoa's bottom line.
Yahoo [YHOO] will report earnings after Wednesday's close. The Internet portal has a pattern of exceeding estimates, although weak ad sales have 'whisper' numbers suggesting it might miss the Street forecasts for the
first time its history. Motorola [MOT] also reports on Wednesday, although not much is expected from the company after it issued two warnings earlier in the quarter that its sales and earnings would fall short of estimates.
Rambus [RMBS] and Ariba [ARBA] will also report quarterly financial results next week. Both companies beat profit forecasts in the previous quarter.
Iomega [IOM] after Friday's close said it expects fourth-quarter earnings of $0.07 to $0.09 a share, compared with analysts' expectations of $0.10 to $0.12. Iomega shares fell 26% in after-hours trading.
Fairchild Semiconductor [FCS] late Friday said it expects its fourth-quarter results to be lower than expected.
Shares of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts [KREM] fell as much as 10% in Friday's after-hours session following a company announcement that it had filed with U.S. regulators to offer and sell 2 million shares of common stock.
After Friday's close, New Era of Networks [NEON] said it expects a fourth-quarter loss of $0.35 a share. Analysts polled by First Call were looking for a profit of $0.11.
Shares of Sanmina [SANM] and AremisSoft [AREM] are expected to split 2-for-1 based on Monday's closing prices.
