Shares of Yahoo [YHOO] dropped as much as 20% in Wednesday's after-hours session following the Internet portal's announcement it matched Wall Street expectations but that 2001 results won't be as strong as forecast.
DoubleClick [DCLK], EBay [EBAY], CMGI [CMGI], and Amazon [AMZN] all traded lower on the Yahoo news.
After Wednesday's close, Motorola [MOT] posted fourth-quarter earnings in line with lowered expectations, and big drops in orders in its semiconductor and handset units. The company's president, though, said Motorola has taken steps to reduce the cost structure in its manufacturing activities and to tightly control operating expenses. He also said further steps would be taken in 2001 to return the corporation to generating growth
in its earnings.
Rational Software [RATL] after Wednesday's close reported a third-quarter profit of $0.20 a share, compared with $0.13 during the same quarter last year. Analysts polled by First Call expected $0.18 a share.
FirePond [FIRE] late Wednesday warned its first-quarter earnings would fall below analysts' expectations.
After Wednesday's close, Vascular Solutions [VASC] reported a fourth-quarter loss of $0.10 a share, $0.02 better than Wall Street forecasts.
Toronto's WaveRider Communications [WAVC] late Wednesday announced unaudited fiscal 2000 revenues of $4.1 Million, a 130% increase from 1999 revenues of $1.8 Million.
Land's End [LE] discusses holiday results on Thursday in a conference call.
Shares of Forest Laboratories [FRX] and Green Mountain Coffee [GMCR] are expected to split 2-for-1 based on Thursday's closing prices.
