New Era of Networks posts quarterly loss
DENVER, Jan 23 (Reuters) - Business software integration company New Era of Networks Inc. (NasdaqNMhttp://www.abt-edv.com/s-channel//Board/smilies/shakehead.gifON - news) on Tuesday posted a fourth-quarter loss and warned that its first-quarter loss would be deeper than expected as it continues to suffer from slower corporate spending on technology.
NEON said it lost $12.34 million, or 34 cents a share, compared with a profit of $54,000, or nil a share, a year ago.
The results were roughly in line with Wall Street's reduced expectations of 35 cents a share according to research firm First Call/Thomson Financial.
NEON, which makes complex software that acts as plumbing to link older software to modern computer systems, said earlier this month it would post a fourth-quarter loss of 35 cents a share rather than the 11-cents a share profit analysts had expected.
The company said it expects to post a first-quarter loss of 5 cents a share, compared with Wall Street expectations of a profit of 2 cents a share.
