Corning [GLW] after Wednesday's close reported fourth-quarter earnings of $0.34 a share, beating the First Call consensus by $0.06. The company, though, warned the overall telecommunications market might experience softness in the first quarter. Corning shares fell 8% in after-hours
trading.
SDL [SDLI] late Wednesday posted better-than-expected earnings and revenue for its fourth quarter, but its shares fell in after-hours trading on the Corning warning and news that the pending merger with JDS Uniphase [JDSU]
had been delayed again due to U.S. anti-trust scrutiny.
Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan testifies before a Senate panel on the budget outlook and might hint at the economic slowdown's implication for monetary policy.
After Wednesday's close, Standard & Poor's announced Bally Total Fitness Holding [BFT] would replace Saga Systems [AGS] in the S&P SmallCap 600 Index after the close of trading on February 1. Also, UCBH Holdings [UCBH]
will replace Imperial Bancorp [IMP] in the S&P SmallCap 600 Index on a date to be announced.
Shares of Sandisk [SNDK] plunged 22% in Wednesday's after-hours session following the company's announcement that it beat earnings estimates but warned for 2001.
Amgen [AMGN] after Wednesday's close reported fourth-quarter earnings of $0.24 a share, missing Wall Street forecasts by a penny. The company, though, reaffirmed its previous financial guidance for 2001.
Veritas Software [VRTS] late Wednesday reported a fourth-quarter profit of $0.19 a share, beating the First Call consensus estimate by $0.02.
Compaq [CPQ] holds an analyst meeting on Thursday.

ohoh.....geht es jetzt erneut den fibres an den Kragen.
Heut dürften wir vorerst die einzige Chance haben nochmals in den Bearischen Keil bei 3040 reinzulaufen - an das Vollenden vor der Notenbanksitzung glaube ich jedoch nicht - wir werden diesen eher nach unten hin verlassen. Und unser Ziel dürfte dann das Schließen des Gaps bei 2620-2640 sein. Hier muß man unbedingt stop market Orders in den Markt setzten, da wir dann zumindest kurfristig einen pull back nach oben sehen werden.
