Merrill Lynch will hold its Internet Conference in New York next week, featuring presentations and speeches from leading e-commerce, new media and Internet infrastructure software and services firms. Analysts expect the conference to emphasize industry fundamentals and the long-term outlook, which could give Internet stocks a boost next week.
Also, Credit Suisse First Boston will hold its Global Telecommunications CEO Conference in New York featuring telecommunications firms such as Qwest [Q], XO Communications [XOXO] and Verizon Communications [VZ].
National Semiconductor [NSM] will report its third-quarter earnings on Thursday. Analysts are expecting earnings of $0.20 a share, this after the company issued two profit warnings earlier in the quarter. The company slipped past estimates the last time it reported.
Red Hat [RHAT] is expected to post a fourth-quarter loss of a penny a share when it reports next week. Red Hat crushed estimates last quarter.
Genzyme [GENZ] reports earnings on Tuesday.
Veritas [VRTS] is expected to issue a mid-quarter update on Monday.
Scientific-Atlanta [SFA] holds an analyst meeting on Thursday.
Shares of Frontier Airlines [FRNT] are expected to split 3-for-2 based on Monday's closing price.

"The bear market we've been in so far has been very sector-specific," says Larry Rice of Josephthal & Co. "We're still in a bottoming-out level for stocks, but the losses don't justify saying there's a bear market in the broader sense."
