Merrill bearish on Motorola (MOT, MER) By Jon Friedman
Merrill Lynch is turning increasingly bearish on Motorola (MOT) . "Since Motorola preannounced its March quarter two weeks ago, we have seen several signs that the company's semiconductor, handset and infrastructure businesses could be weakening further," Merrill analyst Michael Ching said Friday in an investment report. "As a result, we are increasing our March quarter loss-per- share estimate to 8 cents a share from 1 cent a share on sales of $7.8 billion." The analyst is also lowering his 2001 earnings per share estimate to 15 cents from 50 cents on projected revenue of $36 billion. "Lastly," Ching wrote, "we are reducing our 5-year EPS growth rate forecast for the company to 15 percent."
