Morgan Stanley set to announce layoffs (MWD) By Allen Wan
Morgan Stanley Dean Witter (MWD) will on Tuesday start firing as much as 3 percent of its workforce, or up to 1,900 people, Bloomberg.com reported, citing people familiar with the situation. None of the company's 14,000 brokers will lose their jobs, the sources said. As many as 600 positions among traders, research analysts, bankers, salesman and support staff will be eliminated in the institutional-securities division. The rest of the job cuts will come from the asset-management, credit-card and retail brokerage units, they said. A company spokesman declined to comment on the report.
