Gerüchte im Markt beflügeln auch heute wieder zumindest zu Handelsbeginn die Aktie von RF Micro Devices. Das Papier hatte in den letzten Tagen deutliche Kursgewinn verbuchen können, ohne dass erklärende Neuigkeiten bekannt wurden.
Beobachter sprechen davon, dass Intel daran interessiert sein könnte, das auf Hochfrequenz-Module für Handys spezialisierte Unternehmen zu übernehmen.
Die RFMD-Aktie stieg um 1,6% auf 19,47$. Der 52-Wochen-Bereich liegt zwischen 8,75 und 48,31$. Der Philadelphia-Semiconductor-Index sinkt um 0,7% auf 554 Punkte

Der auf Hochfrequenz-Module für Handys spezialisierte Chip-Anbieter RF Micro Devices hat den Umsatz im abgelaufenen ersten Geschäftsquartal 2002 um
27,3% gegenüber den ersten drei Monaten des Jahres auf 70,1 Mio.$ gesteigert. Gegenüber dem Vorjahresquartal gingen die Erlöse um 28,7% zurück. Das
Unternehmen hatte lediglich einen 20%-igen Umsatzanstieg vorhergesagt. Der Verlust je Aktie kommt auf 5 Cent. Das entspricht dem Analystenkonsens.
Die Sicht auf das kurzfristige Marktgeschehen hat sich aufgehellt, heißt es aus dem Unternehmen, das gegenwärtig voll ausgebucht ist. Man rechnet mit einem
weiteren Umsatzanstieg um 10% im laufenden Quartal. Die Bruttomarge soll in einem Bereich zwischen 28 und 33% landen. RF Micro Devices sieht einen Verlust
von 3 Cent. Das ist ein Cent schlechter als bisher prognostiziert wird. Noch im Kalenderjahr 2001 will man in die Gewinnzone zurü! ckkehren.
Unternehmenschef David Norbury: „Wir sind erfreut über die Zahlen. Das Wachstum wurde primär von der Nachfrage nach Leistungsverstärker-Modulen
getrieben. Wir sehen uns im Plan beim Start der Volumenproduktion für neue Leistungsverstärker, die in TDMA- und GSM/GPRS-Handys gleichermaßen
eingesetzt werden können.“
Die Zahlen von RFMD könnten Hoffnungen auf eine baldige Erholung des Handy-Marktes kräftig beflügeln. Hauptkunde des Unternehmens ist Nokia.
Die RFMD-Aktie schloss heute im regulären Handel gut behauptet bei 19,28$. Nach Bekanntgabe der Zahlen geht der Kurs im elektronischen Handel bis auf 21$
hoch. Der 52-Wochen-Bereich liegt zwischen 8,75 und 48,31$.
Und just RF Micro Devices waren es, die den Tag gestern an Wall Street gerettet haben.

RF Micro Devices sees break-even 2nd-quarter

NEW YORK, Sept 10 (Reuters) - RF Micro Devices Inc. (NasdaqNM:RFMD - news), which makes circuits for mobile phones, said on Monday it expects second-quarter results to beat previous estimates, thanks to a fledgling telecommunications recovery, lower inventories and growing market share.
Its shares rose as much as 13 percent after the company, based in Greensboro, North Carolina, said it expects to break even in the quarter ending Sept. 30 on revenues of $91 million, a 30 percent increase from the first quarter.
Both projections are above the company's previous view of a a loss of 3 cents per share and 10 percent revenue growth from the first quarter. The company generated revenues of about $70.1 million in the first quarter ended in June.
Previously, it had said it would start making profits again this year, but did not specify which quarter.
RF Micro's shares closed up 42 cents, or 1.9 percent, at $22.73, in Monday trading on the Nasdaq, after rising as high as $25.20 shortly after the opening bell.
``It's maybe a little too early to call a recovery, but at the same time there are definite signs that things are beginning to pick up, at least in the industries that we sell into,'' RF Micro Chief Financial Officer Dean Priddy told Reuters in a telephone interview.
He added the increased projections were related to a recovery in the mobile telephone market, a reduction in inventories and continued market-share gains at the expense of competitors. He declined to provide greater detail on how much each item was expected to contribute to the growth.
RF Micro, which makes radio-frequency integrated circuits for cellular phones and other wireless systems, is seeing strength particularly in the Americas and Asia, Priddy said.
Analysts on average estimated RF Micro would lose 4 cents per share in the second quarter, with estimates ranging from a loss of 3 cents per share to a loss of 5 cents per share, according to research firm Thomson Financial/First Call.
Priddy said the company did not provide guidance for the fourth quarter other than to say revenues would top the third quarter's projected $91 million level.
Analysts expect RF Micro to earn a penny a share in the fourth quarter, with a range of a loss of a penny to a profit of 3 cents, according to First Call.
RF Micro cited increased orders for both its microwave monolithic integrated circuits and its module products.
``We are seeing increased order activity and revenue growth from multiple customers and across all major air interface standards,'' said RF Micro Chief Executive David Norbury. "We believe this growth is attributable to market share gains, increased end-user demand, and normalized inventory levels.
But Lehman Brothers analyst Joseph To cautioned that the sales improvement may not be linked to a full-fledged recovery in the telecommunications market.
``This could be just inventory replenishment and seasonal factors,'' he said. ``We're not at a point where we can tell if this is true demand picking up.''
The announcement comes less than a week after Motorola (NYSE:MOT - news), one of RF Micro's larger customers, warned of a sales shortfall and said it would slash 2,000 jobs. Sweden's Ericsson (NasdaqNM:ERICY - news) and French telecom gear maker Alcatel (NYSE:ALA - news) also issued gloomy outlooks recently.
Some observers have expressed concern Finland's Nokia (NYSE:NOK - news), the world's largest mobile phone maker and RF Micro's biggest customer, will also fall prey to the global telecom slump.
